Fels: A Chronology of Events
All dates prior to the Collision are in the Anno Domini mode.- Discovery of System
- The system Fels inhabits was first discovered by the Shuganidz Science Brigade. This has been chronicled elsewhere. The year of discovery was AD 2187, and settlement occured shortly after. The first settlement was at Garth on the continent of Merhupneo followed in short order by another at Kyxx on the Three Rivers continent. Other settlements sprung up in Tronapt. A lot of the planet was left pristine.
- Early Expansionism
-
The Shuganidz were given free reign over the world to explore and exploit as they saw fit. This never really occured in any great form, as new immigrants generally gravitated to the Three Rivers, and the Shuganidz never deviated away from their stance as explorers and adapters, rather than conquerors.
Nonetheless, a faction of the Brigade broke away in Tronapt and formed the Monarchial Renaissance movement, in pale imitation of the United Kingdom of Earth, even going as far to set up "marquates" named after counties, provinces and lands of terrestrial antiquity, such as Phrygia, Dzungaria, Somerset, etc.
The folk of Tronapt declared independence from the Brigade and from the ExUN (Extended United Nations) and thrived primarily on offworld trade dealing in raw materials and other commodities. To the Monarchial Renaissance, the remainder of Fels was inhabited by barbarians and phillistines.
Merhupneo took a different path. Religious mysticism took over here. Merhupneo is a desert mostly. Only in the northern coastal fringes is there arable land. A similar situation existed with Mahgreb Africa and the Sahara to the south, save that Merhupneo's desert extended right across the South Pole. Here, retreats and ashrams of all descriptions were founded and the collective heads of these movements decided that they needed no more influence from the Three Rivers, and were generally forgotten by the remainder of Fels.
The continent of Tamarudhe was left untouched, and settlement of the large islands of Gutosjander and Marnopyre were desultory at best. So, in the end, the Three Rivers took most immigration and saw the most diversification of culture. Many petty poleis were formed, kingdoms, republics, empires, co-operative federations, satrapies.
Only Kyxx in the region of Mynatan remained a freeport and Mynatan itself became home to a large number of immigrants. Expansion further south on the continent led to a flood of new arrivals to the heretofore uninhabited islands of Lwedne and Forosth-Stanf.
- The Collision
-
This event occured in the year AD 2455. The Collision has been expanded upon elsewhere. The net result was the destruction of technological civilisation on a universal scale. The event also killed countless millions on Fels due to the influx of odylic magic annihilating instruments, vehicles, computers, etc, as they were being used.
The Collision also created the divine and transcendental beings which flit in and out of the lives of mere mortals everywhere. Theory, for what theory remains, believes that these beings; gods, avatars, demons, etc, were born from the mythologies of men. To be sure, the Muses do dwell in Exa, as do the Tarot. Sorcerors, mystics, thaumaturgists, theurgists, grammaryians, odyilicists, mesmserists and the panoply of magically endowed folk now stalk Fels, casting magic bane and beneficial.
The few folk who do chronicle time have referred to the Collision's day as AC1, After Collision 1. This calendar system is used universally by people, when calendars are used at all. The sages and other folk who deem it fit to indite a record will use this reckoning.
